Booklyn Artists Alliance

Introduction

The Booklyn imprint publishes limited edition artist books and chapbooks that focus on collaborative and innovative multi-media projects connecting artists, writers, and designers. Booklyn staff along with Open Studios work together in creating unique publications. We take the term “self publishing” to heart by doing as much of the hands-on production as we can in the Booklyn Studio including hand bookbinding, box-making, collage, relief and letterpress printing. We hope that the artist books we make can be an intimate and tactile alternative to today’s paper-less, screen saturated culture while encouraging the exploration of both traditional and new technology and media experimentation in the construction and creation of artist books and other works on paper.

-As a small independent publisher we advocate for the freedom of expression, freedom of the press, and we are committed to supporting dissenting, provocative and controversial literature and art.

-We are committed to expanding the diversity of our audience by publishing emerging artists and writers of every race, class, ethnicity, religion, age, gender expression, and sexual orientation. To that end, we encourage writers and artists with diverse backgrounds and ideas to submit manuscripts for consideration for publication.

-In the past, Booklyn has coordinated the collaboration of great artists with authors, often matching emerging artists and authors with established artists and authors.

-We are available as a resource, providing referrals and professional assistance to associated artists, educators, and the general public.
