Paul Salt specialises in producing artists’ books. He is also an associate lecturer in art & design. Previous exhibitions include The River Don Project [funded by Yorkshire Arts] - photographs, boxed found materials and artists’ books. A further award from Yorkshire Arts supported the development, production and showing of artists’ books. His work is currently touring internationally in the Arcadia Id Est exhibition [The Centre for Fine Print Research, University of the West of England].


RIVER THINKING — PRAGUE

A walk along the waterfront in Prague, recording the city marked by the passage of the flooded river. Mud lines - high up on walls, doors and windows. Scoured surfaces – washed clean. Detritus removed, walls resurfaced. Walking along streets, looking up at the water line, wading up and out of the waters.

A day's journey East to West across Hadrian’s Wall. Referencing Latin text still in use today and the presence of Roman engineering still used to communicate and connect. Susan Shaw is a writer with a background in visual arts. She works, part time, in the field of arts development and creative learning. Her short stories have been published in Mslexia and the second Matter anthology and she devised a text and photography based piece for Proof (Internet publication). Two awards from Yorkshire Arts have enabled her to explore the combined use of text and images, resulting in the production of artists’ books. A full-length volume of short stories will be submitted in 2006 for the MA in Writing at Sheffield Hallam University.
