Silk-Screening Workshop- Application InformationNEW DEADLINE! The Good News Booklyn Artists' Alliance recently received the Brooklyn Arts Council- Department of Cultural Affairs regrant to hold an utterly fantastic and affordable Silk-Screening class with the established artist and entrepreneur Jen P. Harris of Black Sheep Heap. This class will be ten students strong. Eight applicants will be invited to participate at the subsidized rate of $70 a seat. Two applicants will be invited to participate in the class free of charge. $70 seat awardees will: o Attend each of the five workshops o Donate one final Silk-Screened piece to Booklyn for our archives Granted seat awardees will: o Attend each of the five workshops o Donate one final Silk-Screened piece to Booklyn for our archives o Propose a piece or a body of work that relates to their Bushwick or Bedford Stuyvesant community experience. o Propose a venue in their Bushwick or Bedford Stuyvesant community where they will exhibit this work. Application Criteria and Deadlines Application Form The Workshop Workshop: Introduction to Alternative Water-Based Silkscreen Techniques Date: Five Mondays - June 1/ 8/15/ 22/ 29 from 7-10pm, 2009 This beginning workshop will introduce you to various alternative screen-printing techniques, including hand-painted screens, handmade stencils, and multi-color printing. Demonstrations will include screen stretching and preparation, mark-making tools, color mixing, and screen cleaning (fun!). Silkscreen is one of the simplest and most flexible printmaking methods. You can experiment with printing on paper, fabric and other materials. This class will above all be interest-oriented, with a focus on enabling each participant to realize her or his individual project goals. Screens, inks and basic papers are provided for class use.
