A Bird Knows No Barbed Wire
by Aaron Hughes, a member of Iraq Veterans Against the War
2007
6 pages, 3 x 5", polymer hand printed photographs, saddle-stitch staple binding.

This hand printed book is a memento from an Iraq we are not used to seeing in the media. Photographs of children amid rubble and destruction are compromised like multiple-generation photocopies, giving them a dream-like, painterly presence.

Profits from the sale of this edition will go to the charity globmed to help children in Iraq.

In 2003 Aaron Hughes was called to active duty with the National Guard. He spent over a year transporting supplies from camps and ports in Kuwait to camps in Iraq. Aaron returned to the University of Illinois in the spring of 2005 as a student majoring in painting.
