NOW - Laurent Impeduglia, STO, Joe Roberts: "CRAPTASTIC!"Booklyn Artists Alliance is proud to present its newest exhibit curated by Brooklyn based artist Kottie Paloma -- CRAPTASTIC!
July 10th-August 10th 2010 Opening Reception
The idea for the title CRAPTASTIC! derived from a conversation between Kottie Paloma and Marshall Weber, in which both were having not quite a fantastic day, but wasn’t the worst day either... The two of them decided at that point that they were having a CRAPTASTIC! day! This same tone is evident in the work in this exhibit, whether in Impeduglia's search for spirituality that places Jesus at the same cross roads as Daffy Duck & The Incredible Hulk, or Startsky and Hutch crashing their infamous red and white car into a church only to get a moving violation from a skeleton. Roberts' work blends elements of yin and yang with sticker collages and pot smoking Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtle drawings, snowmen shooting Uzi machine guns into the night sky and alien spaceships fly dangerously across the picture planes of drawings. AND IN THE THIRD CORNER -- STO, who often focuses on paper-mâché life-like sculptures of everyday objects (chocolate covered donuts, mixed tape cassettes, and Mexican wrestling masks) works around around the central theme of boxing, offering up life-size paper-mâché sculptures of boxing gloves, a punching bag, championship belts, and boxer shorts. It’s a one-two punch by STO and you're knocked out, existentially! Can't get enough of STO? Check out more of his work the same night at Cinders (<-- click!) opening of Temple of Bloom. Watch this space for a map of the route from Booklyn to Cinders! This page is maintained by Marshall Weber. |
