Parallel Botany
A collaborative/interactive exhibition consisting of the pairing of innovative contemporary artist books and prints with rare sixteenth, seventeenth, eighteenth, and nineteenth century botanical prints and books selected from the host library's collections. The exhibit explores the resonance between contemporary and antique botanicals and is structured to illustrate the historical development of natural theory from the Enlightenment the current philosophy of deep ecology. Various site-specific book and botanical hybrid scuptures and installations form an important component of the exhibition. Exhibition History 2001 - Growing Books, a Parallel Botany exhibit, University of Massachusetts, Amherst (The Vegetable Mind performance is a stand-alone component of the Parallel Botany exhibition.)
