2005

DCA Regrant from BAC
Booklyn has been awarded a 2005 Department of Cultural Affairs (DCA) Regrant from the Brooklyn Arts Council, Inc. (BAC). With the funds Booklyn will publish a 60 page book making curriculum for schools and programs working with youth.

Booklyn believes the power of the book exists not only in literacy, but in the skills and resources needed to make books. Educators empower the voices in their communities and are conduits of the knowledge and the resources needed to make those voices heard.  As artists and educators ourselves, we are invested in sharing our resources and our hope is that the Booklyn Education Manual will serve our arts and education communities.

The Booklyn Education Manual will be released during the First Tuesday Open Salon on June 7, 2005 at Booklyn's studio in Greenpoint. We hope to see you there!

2004

CAE Parents as Art Partners Grant
In partnership with PS 250 and the Brooklyn Museum of Art (BMA), Booklyn was awarded funding by the Center for Arts Education (CAE) through their Parents As Arts Partners program. PS 250 was one of 150 New York City public schools to receive this award, which supports the provision of arts education programs for families. The funded program was collaboratively designed by Booklyn, PS 250 and BMA. Booklyn's Education Department sent the wonderful Jamie Munkatchy, one of our artist-educators, to PS 250 where she facilitated the bookmaking component of the program, leading workshops for students and their families. You can read all about it by clicking here. Thanks to Celia Knight at PS 250, CAE and BMA for inviting us to be a part of this partnership.

BAC Community Arts Regrants
Booklyn's Development Department secured two grants for the organization through the Brooklyn Arts Council, Inc. (BAC) 2004 Community Arts Regrant Program. Booklyn received funding for a much-needed technological expansion initiative from the JPMorganChase Regrant Program. In addition, our Education Department received public funds from the New York State Council on the Arts (NYSCA) for Bookmaking in Bushwick, a series of workshops that were conducted by the amazing Bridget Elmer at Make the Road By Walking, a community-based, membership-led organization based in Bushwick. You can read more about the program by clicking here. Both of these regrants are administered by the Brooklyn Arts Council, Inc. (BAC). Booklyn extends our gratitude to BAC, JPMorganChase and NYSCA for their support.
